ADEPP stands for “Analysis & Dynamic Evaluation of Project Processes”.

We intend to add the 3D consequence modelling like fire & explosion from the LNG releases and operator actions to the 3D model of a typical plant like your as shown in:

http://www.canaportlng.com/popup-watch-tour.html

All the partners are mobilised now and if you accept to provide us the CAD model for this 3D model tour we can add the functionalities similar to what you can see in the following clips to your model:

http://www.adepp.com/ProcessLife
http://furnace.projectchainsaw.com
http://www.adepp.com/demo

Then we can market and commercialise the typical 3D training simulator with your partnership.

We will commercialise this product in three following mode:

1- Customised 3D model of whole plant for the new projects. We will use the materials and studies that any modern EPC generate conventionally and all our functionalities.

2- Generic 3D model of whole plant for the existing plants. Many existing plant don’t have any 3D models. We will provide a 3D model of the typical plants like LNG, FCC, FPSO, etc in the server with the “Second Life” style to be used by the similar plant anywhere.

3- The Generic model above could be breakdown to the Modules and be sold with affordable price for the punctual needs of the plants.

Any thoughts about this project are much appreciated.

Kindest regards,
Fabienne

This should not be limited to just LNG, FCC, FPSO, but also manufacturing facilities that have combustible related fire and explosion hazards. A dust explosion is a propagating explosion like a vapor cloud explosion. GexCon with FLACS utilizes CFD integrated with CAD and now has followed up with a dust explosion simulation code (DESC).

This is great that ADEPP intends to add the 3D consequence modelling like fire & explosion from the LNG releases. Keep up the great work Fabiene!

Dear John,

I wont be limited to a plant or subject. Our Our intention is that using all modern technology can offer us to understand better (through Training Simulators) and respond quickly to the urgent projects/plants question (through Expert Support).

Sometimes, an issue can be solved easily by just consulting the right person with relevant expertise and avoid stress and anxiety in project which lead to waste of time and energy.

We wish that everyone works with serenity and highest professional standards everywhere in the world.

We wish that the high quality experts like you will be compensated for their support wherever they are and whatever they do even during their retirement.

We want to give an order and structure to so many good published works that are lost in the web search engines.

I forgot to mention that we have already signed a Non Disclosure agreement with Gexcon and very excited to start our collaboration with them starting by LNG.

One of my friends wrote the following message in his skype:

The best service you do to humanity is the one you do with your fullest potential

I think this is the key. We wish to do so starting by ourselves and supporting the others.

Fabienne…this is an excellent idea and indeed future of consequence modeling. Having done this type of modeling for close to 12-years now…I believe that there is enough useful information to create and (partly) validate consequence models. Of particular interest would be application of the 3D models to optimize plant layout – safety, ergonomics, fire and gas detectors, etc.

Many thanks Sanjeev.

We think the time of “HSE Expert without boarder” has already arrived and we can do the great things together.

Some of the Linkedin discussions are great but we cannot keep them with a structured way to use later when we need in our work. I tried to give a structure to the Linkedin structures in ADEPP Networking but it is far from perfect.

We can do much better as open collaborative HSE professionals. The advantage of 3D model is that we can create an inherent structure and gather the relevant data, information and knowledge in the right place.

The advantage of online system is we can access to intelligence wherever it is found.

The advantage of open collaborative system is we can globalise technical and productive aspects as well as finance and commerce. This will lead to a fairer world in which people will be valued by their competency, work and integrity and not prefabricated and false values of nationality or social class.

Please don’t hesitate to spread the good words and encourage your friends and colleagues to express themselves in this page.

ADEPP online 3D Training Simulator & Expert Support project has been created with a lot of care and compassion not only to improve our bank account status.
We take pleasure to observe that the talent of everyone is blossomed and open like a beautiful Lotus.

We also dream that all plants worldwide are designed, co structured, commissioned, operated and maintained in a reliable and safe manner.

We invite everyone to take in this dream.

I like very much. A few years ag we tried to develop an interface between CAD models and HAZOP. We considered both 2D and 3D models. At the end just the 2D interface was developed [1] . But I have in my old files something about this attempt, including a detailed 3D model of a topping plant, designed by means of IBM CATIA modeler.

Fabienne, I really liked the video, especially since I used to work in the Petrochem industry in the early days of 3D modelling. How was your model built and how can someone interact with it ?
The specific area I am interested in, at the moment, is more like 3DXplorer, but the environment I participated in at the seminar was more like Second Life.
Does anyone have experience in using Second Life types of virtual world for business learning, meetings or training ?

Dear Julian,

We are working to offer what you are looking for. Like you I started to think about using Second Life as the main support. Many universities are looking at this approach closely.

But Second Life is not so adapted for industrial applications. In each modern project they make the 3D model of the plant which shows the exact layout, dimensions and size of equipment. These 3D models are made by different packages. The most important are:

1- AVEVA PDMS 12.0 (Recorded Webinar)
http://mfile.akamai.com/23543/wmv/citrixvar.download.akamai.com/23543/www/732/198/2929433020515732198/2-2929433020515732198-12478781a34.asx

2- Intergraph ( http://www.intergraph.com/ )

They don’t have the possibility of integration of the avatars on their 3D environment yet.

VRcontext ( http://www.vrcontext.com ) can take the 3D model of AVEVA or Intergraph and offer the possibility of adding one avatar and CFD modelling to the plant. I found it suitable for our applications and did the following demo:
https://www.box.net/shared/q05xv3esc9

MellaniuM Dome is my official partner for improving the numbers of avatars and online communication tools. NORTEL’s WEB.ALIVE 3D virtual client offers the capability to have over 500 concurrent avatars not only interacting and chatting in an office complex environment but delivering presentations and file sharing among each other at http://apex.projectchainsaw.com .Would you be possibly interested in gathering a group of your colleagues together for a full test of the technology on Friday, November 27th at 12 pm NOON (EST) A successful conclusion would prove the value of web.alive as a viable conferencing platform.

Gexcon which is specialised in CFD modelling and 3D explosion modelling and simulation has also signed a Non disclosure agreement with ADEPP to integrate the CFD modelling to the 3D model of plant based on the scenarios that we define.

I would also integrate the 3D and dynamic scientific models like the following in the system:

Demo: Creating Virtual Prototypes with Pro/ENGINEER
http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/98157/en/flash/index.htm?&im_dbkey=98157&icg_dbkey=362

COMSOL Multiphysics tools
http://www.comsol.eu/showroom/animations/

Control System Design
http://csd.newcastle.edu.au/index.html

The combination of these tools with ADEPP HSE Toolkit and ADEPP monitor ( http://www.adepp.com ) will provide a well structured, open collaborative platform for training purposes and expert support.

We wish to cover the training of every one from the engineers to managers and operators at any discipline and at any phase of project.

Finally the key factor for success of such project is the way that we structure, process, verify and archive the collaborative works.

At this stage I think to use Autonomy ( http://www.autonomy.com/content/Customers/ShowReel/index.en.html ) for this purpose.

Once all these come together we can make the same system for any industrial plant and it will be their Plant Life.

If ADEPP online 3D Training Simulator & Expert Support could be materialised I think there will be enough work for all those work in 3D and e-learning business. I can also host and provide services for all professionals at any level.

If “ADEPP online 3D Training Simulator & Expert Support” make sense to you please support, vote and comment this project at:
http://www.passtheball.com/ideas/view/id/2058

You support could make our voice heard by Linkedin & Webex technical and business people to make it accessible for all Linkedin and Webex users.

Please don’t hesitate to spread the good words and invite those who could be interested to support us.

Kindest regards,
Fabienne

Fabienne,
Thanks for such a detailed reply. Is PDMS the software that used to be offered by Cad Center ? I am reasonably familliar with Intergraph’s PDS.

I am going to review the links you provided in detail. Specifically I wonder:

- Can a full process plant used interactively on the web (through a browser I guess). I assume that the challenges are performance and modelling tools, although maybe there is away to convert in to some type of web format and upload it.

- Once it has been uploaded and can be used interactively what are the benefits, business case for doing so ? Are the benefits – training, analysis (e.g. find escape routes), future upgrades to the plant ? I am a little unclear on this.
Presumably a single avatar for “walkthrough” makes good sense, but how would a large number of avatars be used ? This is the part I don’t quite understand and would like to learn about.

- I wonder also about the value for other applications – tourism, Homeland Security, Virtual Shopping, use in GPS for route finding in cities, etc.
Have you had any thoughts on this ?

- Conferencing is the one area I don’t really see a business case for, and this was the reason for my original question to the group. Hopefully someone out there can add something on that specific aspect.

Julian

- What do you consider to be the current challenges of 3D Virtual Worlds ?

ADEPP Academy

Paris France

Dear Julian,

AVEVA is Cadcentre with new name and some more company. People pay for “M” in PDMS but rarely use it properly (they don’t use it at all!).

About your question:
1- A full process plant can be used interactively on the web. However, the integration should be performed with a great care. I think while system is integrated each program should be run independently and in a modular way. We should be careful not to introduce the calculation errors because of integration.

The worse case is when we have results without any error message but they are wrong!

All the packages have the possibility to be web based but nobody ask for it seriously. So this possibility is not used.

2- The safest applications is Training. I was in the conference of COMSOL in Milan two weeks ago. They showed us that using access form we can create as much interfaces that we want with a single model.

We can design a series of interactive exercises, quizzes, visualisation of the phenomena, etc. for training purposes.

For design it can be used for the followings:

2.1- Provision an objective support/input to the brainstorming sessions like HAZOP and SIL assessment about the consequence of the different disturbances or failure modes.

2.2- Sensitivity analysis of all sorts. In the COMSOL conference we had a presentation from ABB who demonstrated how the sensitively analysis has been done to optimise selection of the materials for a piece of equipment to be used in airplane. They made the model and then they got the temperature distribution in the equipment for sigma = 1, 10, 100. for Sigma=100 we could see that the copper parts were going to be melt.

2.3- 3D Model review to optimise the accessibility, maintainability, etc. In oil & gas we must perform 3D review at 30%, 60% and 90% of project completion. Here, the avatars are very important. Because we can place them where they normally work and assess the impact of different parameters including safety distances and layout on them.

2.4- for fire & explosion and Escape, Evacuation, Rescue (EER) Analysis. How people and equipment are affected by fire, thermal radiation, smoke and blast. Can they escape?

and may other applications….

3- It can be used for any applications. If any business wishes to use these approaches, a competent group can be made to learn what they do and offer them the solutions.

4- I think it can be used for conferencing as well as e-courses. I attended in conference of SAP which was quite interesting. They did not go so far because of very nature of SAP which is abstract. But if the conference has some more physical aspect like engineering conferences it can be used for this application too.

One of the most important issues in any conference is question time. They don’t have enough time to take the questions of everyone. Which such system everybody can express themselves and speaker can come back to them later and if necessary use his/her saved presentation or animations.

5- Integration and Structure of the contents is the most challenging issue in Unreal and web based systems. We can get overwhelmed easily by the mass and flux of data, information and knowledge. The key to success is while everybody is free to express itself easily, a system is installed to process, verify and archive the final works.

Kindest regards,
Fabienne

Generic 3D modelling with lesson learned is very useful for the conceptual phase of projects.

If this model can be customised for specific project during FEED and detailed design will enable projects to define safety critical elements and their performance standards.

If the 3D model of the project can be combined with ADEPP monitor will enable to perform commissioning and start up with high performance.

The complete 3D model with ADEPP monitor can be a tool for online HSE case, training and verification of safety critical elements and management of related activities and tasks.

Thanks to 3D model review and online open source database capabilities which allows us to understand the real issues and how to communicate efficiently with project team.

Our ambition is to cover all levels of training when there are enough resources available. I do believe that we can improve the quality of training and education by the factor of 10 immediately just by collecting the available works and present them with a user-friendly order. Just look at the following example from BBC:

Animated guide for NATURAL DISASTERS

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7533972.stm

Even the professional people were delighted to learn from this easy to understand example.

Another example is the following:

Credit Crunch

http://crisisofcredit.com/

There are the millions of good works all over the world but they are "dispersed" and "unstructured". If have enough money to set up a reliable server and install the only the available free software documents and guidelines we can make a huge difference.
