The future in recycling will be through the creation of self-organising systems that mine waste for its raw material value. In the same way that ants are the principle recyclers of organic waste, future cyber-ants will infiltrate land-fills and other waste deposits to “decompose” all inorganic waste.

In the same way that different ant species focus on different organic waste products, so there will be different cyber-ants for each type of waste material (e.g. glass, aluminium, plastic etc) and similarly for the various roles of forraging, cutting, transportation.

Here is some interesting technology on robotic movement, inspired by nature: http://blog.ted.com/2007/11/robert_full.php

This kind of technology or thinking maybe relevant for cyber-compost to work.
